ABOUT
Dr. Michelle Porter, Director of the Centre on Aging, and Angie Conrad, MPA, Anti-ableism and Age Inclusivity Specialist, at the University of Manitoba, serve as co-leads for the Northern American Region.
The University of Manitoba has been at the forefront of aging-related research for decades, as demonstrated by its establishment of Canada’s first research centre on aging in 1982. The Centre on Aging has earned a national and international reputation for excellence in research. The University of Manitoba was the first Canadian university to endorse the Ten Principles of an Age-Friendly University in 2012, joining the AFU Global Network in 2016. The university, through the Centre on Aging, has demonstrated leadership in interdisciplinary research, community engagement, and age-friendly programming.

Each AFU GN Regional Lead is a leader in the Age-Friendly University Movement. They serve as a point of contact for institutions in the region interested in pursuing Age-Friendly University Status and work to coordinate activities in each of their respective regions.
They are elected to serve a 4-year renewable term.
